Description:
This 3-hour workshop is designed to help editors think
beyond the keyboard shortcut and explore the more artistic side of editing. We
will look at documentary editing – cutting interviews and supporting those
interviews with b-roll. This is a lecture-style class, and we will work through
multiple examples together, leaving ample time for questions at the end.

This workshop will cover how to:
- Isolate good sound bites and selects from longer
interviews
- Organize interviews to best tell your story
- Trim out pauses and flubs
- Rearrange interviews within your sequence
- Smooth-out tough edits
- Cut in b-roll to support your story
- Pace your story
Presented as a Lecture-Style Workshop:
Affordable workshops designed to introduce a subject quickly and efficiently. Students can take notes from the instructor's projected computer screen, and/or bring their own computer to follow along.
Who Should Take This:
Participants should have a good working knowledge of non-linear editing programs such as Final Cut Pro. However, the focus of this class is artistic rather than technical – editors and non-editors are both most welcome.
Instructor:
Energetic and passionate about all things video, Ethan Benninger works by day as an editor for People Productions in Boulder. He has worked with both national and international clients such as ABC Family, GE, The American Red Cross, Papa John's Pizza and The Food Network. Ethan’s projects include documentaries, TV spots, and everything in between. In addition to being an Apple Certified Pro on multiple applications within Final Cut Studio, he is also an Apple Certified Final Cut Pro Trainer, and teaches at the Art Institute of Colorado in downtown Denver.
