Description:
Adobe Dreamweaver is an industry standard for WYSIWYG HTML editors. In this Hands-On Intensive class we will cover the basic components of this program in order to get you going with building your own website. This class will focus on Dreamweaver CS4, but most of what is covered will also be applicable to earlier versions of the software. The workshop will cover: - What is Dreamweaver and WYSIWYG editing
- Introduction to the Dreamweaver interface
- Managing site definitions and the Files panel
- Page properties and titles
- HTML tags and basic formatting
- Working with HTML Tables
- Colors in HTML
- Image formats for the web
- Working with background images
- Inserting and properties of images
- Incorporating Flash and Flash Video content in a site
- Creating links to other pages
- Named anchor and email links
- Overview of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
- Tag, class, ID, and compound CSS styles
- Internal, external, and printer-friendly style sheets
- Creating a simple CSS-based layout
- Working with Dreamweaver's included CSS-based layouts
- Introducion to javascript elements
- Inserting javascript rollover images
- Using Dreamweaver's Ajax/Spry popUp menu
- Working with reusable Library items
- Creating a Dreamweaver Template to manage a site
- Working with pages using Templates
- Find and Replace, Clean up XHTML, and Source Formatting commands
- Remote site definition and publishing to a web server
Though the class is taught using our state-of-the-art Mac computers, please be aware that the Mac and PC versions of this software are nearly identical - the only real differences are the keyboard shortcuts.
Presented in Adobe CS5, but most of what is taught will apply to earlier versions of the program.

These in-depth one or two-day classes are designed for students to follow along with the instructor on BDA-provided Macintosh computers. For maximum impact and the best student experience all intensives are limited to seven participants. Hands-on intensives are usually during the day from 9am - 5pm. Our Hands-On Intensives are the perfect way to gain in-depth knowledge!
Who Should Take This:
Participants should have some background understanding of web technology. Instruction will be presented in Macintosh OS X.
Instructor:
 Kelly McCormack is a freelance web designer, Adobe Certified Instructor, and artist who has been producing web sites professionally since 1995. After earning a BS in Fine Art and Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, he managed the 7th Federal Reserve District's intranet site and became an early adopter of Dreamweaver he then started his own web design business. Soon after, he added Flash, Fireworks, and Photoshop to his repertoire and began teaching. A move from Chicago to Boulder in 2003 followed, and over the past many years Kelly has become one of the most sought after Dreamweaver and Flash instructors in the Rocky Mountain Region.
Kelly McCormack is an Adobe Certified Instructor and Adobe Certified Expert in Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and Contribute. He offers private training, has developed his own training materials and has authored a Quamut Dreamweaver handbook.
Kelly specializes in visual design and efficient and correct production techniques for web site projects. He believes in attention to detail and usability, pixel-perfect graphics, character-perfect HTML/CSS code, and an intuitive user experience.
In his fine art life, Kelly enjoys painting, drawing, photography, and uses Photoshop to bring it all together. He has participated in many group shows in Denver's Santa Fe arts district and recently earned two Honorable Mentions for his work. You can see his work on his website at kellymccormack.com
