Description:
The
Shoot Out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival Boulder with the support of the
Boulder Arts Commission along with Boulder Digital Arts is excited to
provide a special pre-Shoot Out workshop again.  This event is designed
to help prepare the filmmakers for The Shoot Out
Boulder which will occur on September 24-26, 2010.
This day-long event will inspire film-makers to make a fast film
while teaching them the methodology of successful short-form
storytelling, lighting, directing, and in-camera editing.  Special
emphasis will be paid to The Shoot Out’s official format and
requirements.
The workshop is a great way to help filmmakers find their vision, learn
problem solving skills, and meet new friends.  After this event,
participants should have a head-start on preparing for the upcoming
Shoot Out.
Create and shoot a short film in one day using proven filmmaking
tactics. Start by working with time, place, and character limitations to
write a five-minute group inspired script. Then get help devising a
shot list, blocking out scenes, and directing using only in-camera
editing techniques. Using a class supplied video camera or your own, you
will learn best practice techniques including professional audio and
lighting tips. After a short lunch break, everyone gets to experience
what they have learned: directing, acting, lighting, and shooting.
Invite friends and family to view the completed short film at 4:30 p.m.
The workshop is free but donations will be gladly accepted. All
participants must RSVP prior to the event as space is limited. Instructors:
Key team members of previous year winners as well as Michael Conti,
Executive Director of the Festival.
What to bring:  Story ideas, friends, and personal
video cameras.  Several cameras will be available during the course. Cost:
Free (with a suggested donation of $20 per team)
PLEASE NOTE:  Though BDA is a proud sponsor of the Shoot Out Boulder, this workshop is not a BDA-managed event.
Presented as a Lecture-Style Workshop:
These are our most affordable training programs, designed to introduce a subject quickly and efficiently. Students can take notes from the instructor's projected computer screen, and/or bring their own computer to follow along. Lecture-style workshops are normally held on weekday evenings from 6 pm – 9 pm and contain a maximum of 30 students (average is 8-20).
Instructor:
Michael Conti launched his successful Hollywood career over a span of 11 years. He embraced the emerging new technologies, such as digital video and computer-based non-linear editing software. In the span of one year, Conti directed over fifteen short films. His work is known internationally and has been shown locally at the Red Reel, Independent Filmmakers Showcase, and Group101 Films.
BDA Member Cost: This is a free event.
Non Member Cost: This is a free event.
