Description:
Today’s post-production market has required that studios get smaller, while doing more with less staff and equipment.  In the case of video compression, one lone editor might be responsible for converting a edited sequence into a digital file destined for DVD, the web, iPods and maybe even set-top boxes.
This class will focus on video compression for one-man (or woman) studios. We’ll cover encoding using those tools you already have in your editing toolbox (Compressor, Adobe Media Encoder and a little Sorensen Squeeze) as well as cover a bit on stand-alone applications such as Telestream Episooe Pro & Flip4Mac, and Grass Valley Pro Coder 3.
We’ll also show you how to use watch folders, understand the basic errors everyone makes in encoding digital video, as well as ways to get something out in the digital world so someone can see your work.
Presented as a Lecture-Style Workshop:
These are our most affordable training programs, designed to introduce a subject quickly and efficiently. Students can take notes from the instructor's projected computer screen, and/or bring their own computer to follow along. Lecture-style workshops are normally held on weekday evenings from 6 pm – 9 pm and contain a maximum of 30 students (average is 8-20).
Who Should Take This:
Nonlinear Editors and Motion Graphics Artists with some experience with the fundamentals of video (field order, codecs, formats.) You should have very good knowledge of computer operating systems (Mac or Windows), as well as a basic understanding of the web and mobile devices (iPod.)
Instructor:
Dan Warvi has been working in Broad Design and Production since 1992. In 1995, he built an editing and design studio for the Department of Defense based entirely on Macintosh computers, the 2nd of its kind in national broading (NBC had the first.) More recently, he helped built the High School Hot Shots program for KUSA 9News, where students were given DV cameras and laptops to record high school sporting events. Students then edited the footage, encoded the result and uploaded it directly to the 9News Media Server.
While at 9News, Dan was nominated for over twenty Regional Emmy Awards, winning 4. He was the former host of the former Denver Avid User Group, and currently presents at the Rocky Mountain Adobe User Group. When not skiing or riding a bike, he’s active in veteran advocacy, and is a volunteer for Disabled American Veterans.
