In one week, you will gain the necessary experience to have your video productions operate at a higher level than before. You'll learn advanced professional lighting techniques, shooting with multiple cameras, shooting greenscreen, directing and interviewing techniques, and creating camera movement off the tripod.
Program Description
If you're at a point in your career as a videographer where you need to get some new skills to enable you to get more work (or make your own independent video productions look better), this one -week program will do the trick. You'll learn many essential new skills involving creating unique lighting, getting the camera off the tripod, getting good sound in bad situations, shooting proper greenscreen, and much more.
Shooting video professionally is an art - and not just literally. In this class, you'll learn more about working with clients, sharpen your interviewing techniques, learn to properly shoot with multiple cameras, and much more. The goal is to get you to start doing things in a new way, because you'll learn advanced techniques that will enable you to do your job better, and make your productions look even more professional.
The instructors teaching this class are tops in their field - you'll be learning from the best. They are pros who are doing this work everyday, and know the tricks to make it work. They are eager to share their wealth of knowledge with you, and want to help you get your career to the next level.

Equipment
Students are encouraged to bring their own video camera if they own one. BDA will provide two industry-standard professional video cameras (one standard-definition tape-based and one tapeless high-definition).

9am - 5pm : Emotional Cinematography
Filmmaking is a collaborative storytelling process where the Director of Photography brings an essential emotion to the film. Whether you are working with a director who is very specific in what they want or with one who leaves you a lot of artistic freedom, the DP needs to know the various ways to frame and light a scene in order to achieve a certain effect, set a mood or make a statement.

9am - 5pm : Advanced Lighting Techniques
Lighting is an integral part of the storytelling process. Whether we are lighting a feature film, an interview or a food show we are telling a story. Light is necessary every time we focus the lens. The way a picture on the screen impacts the viewer is determined by the light. The quality, angle and brightness of the light evoke different emotions. This workshop will demonstrate lighting techniques that will help you apply the art and craft of lighting in your film-making endeavors.
Wednesday

9am - Noon : Advanced Audio Techniques
This session discusses difficult micrphone placement, challenging situations and shoots and managing a range of sound sources/wireless devices. You'll also learn a range of insider tips and techniques from a professional audio guy.

1pm - 5pm : Interview Techniques
The interview is one of the most common situations you'll encounter. How the interview is conducted and the coverage you get can often make or break the production. In this session you'll learn expert tips and techniques to ensure you get the best interviews possible.
Thursday

9am - Noon : Shooting with Multiple Cameras
In this session you'll learn how to effectively produce multi-camera productions from directing shots for best coverage to syncing camera timecode.

1pm - 5pm : Shooting Greenscreen/Bluescreen
Many productions call for shooting greenscreen/bluescreen for chroma keying in post-production. In this session you'll learn how to setup these shoots and effective lighting techniques that are critical to produce a high-quality key in the edit suite.
Friday

9am - 1pm : Moving the Camera for Dynamic Shots
Learn how to create beautiful moving shots with dollies, jibs and stedicams. These shots will add color and interest to your productions like nothing else!

1:30pm - 5pm : Getting Great Coverage and Working with Talent
We'll wrap up the program discussing expert advice on shooting for the edit and ensuring that you're getting adequate coverage to make the production a success. You'll also learn how to work with talent effectively.
Instructors
Antony Cooper has directed and produced many award winning broad, corporate and documentary videos, here and in the UK. Several years in music TV production for MTV and Polygram Records include names such as the Rolling Stones, the Who, Elvis Costello and INXS. Other projects include Director of on-air operations for the Denver based Scandinavian Channel, and Director of Photography on award winning Environmental documentaries "The Nature of Cities" and "Transforming Energy". Recently Antony has written and directed videos for Miller Brewing, Olympus Cameras, the pharmaceutical manufacturer Roche, and national 9-1-1 database management company Intrado.
Edward Done has extended experience including Narrative Films, Documentary Filming, Corporate Communications, and Commercial Production. He also has experience filming from helicopters, cranes and using motion control and the Time-track camera system. Edward received a MFA in Dance and Lighting Design from California Institute of the Arts. After staging several dance productions in San Diego and Seattle and studying modern dance in New York and Seattle he discovered his love for film production. Edward worked 10 years as a Lighting Director and Gaffer on many movies and commercials before making the jump to Director of Photography. His strong background in visual communications and experience in lighting has made for a very successful career as a cinematographer.

BDA is committed to providing the best learning experience possible. One of the distinctive benefits of our Transitions Certificate Programs is evening mentoring from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Our evening mentors are different than the class instructors who are also working professionals in the industry offering you a broader perspective and a great opportunity to practice the skills you've learned, get particular questions answered or simply hang-out with peers and exchange ideas and conversation.
Location
This certificate program will be held at the Boulder Digital Arts Broadway Production Studio which is complete professional production studio operated by Boulder Digital Arts for exclusive use by our members and training participants.
