Video Post-Production One-Week Certificate Program
Registration is required for this offering (below).

In this one week certificate program you will learn storytelling techniques, how to edit video in Final Cut Pro, how to create exciting motion graphics, and master your productions to tape, DVD and the web. You will gain the skills necessary to edit video professionally.

Program Description

It takes a lot of skill to become a good video editor - our one-week program will help you get to that point quickly! We'll teach you not only the essential technical tools, like Final Cut Pro, but you'll also learn important skills regarding creating motion graphics, color-correction, audio tweaking, and media management. In addition, you'll be taught something that's even more important than the technical things: you'll learn the aesthetics of editing, to help insure that your videos after this week will look, and sound, more professional than you ever imagined.

Schedule

    Monday

  • 9am - 3:30pm : Intro To Final Cut Pro
    In this session you will get a robust introduction to the power video editing software Final Cut Pro. You'll how to capture footage, how to edit and "trim" your sequence, basic audio editing and how to add simple graphics.
  • 3:30pm - 5pm : Practice Time
    Take what you've learned and practice with Final Cut Pro. The instructor will be available to offer guidance and answer any questions.
  • Tuesday

  • 9am - Noon : Aesthetics of Editing
    Great editing is more than how to push the buttons. In this session you'll learn about the artistic side of editing including pacing, building a compelling sequence and more.
  • 1pm - 3pm : Media Management and Worflow
    In this session you'll learn expert strategies on managing your media and video editing workflow from ingest through final output.
  • 3pm - 5pm : Practice Time
    During this practice session you'll be encouraged to edit a variety of sequences incorporating what you've learned about Final Cut Pro and the art of editing. The instructor will be available to offer guidance and answer any questions.
  • Wednesday

  • 9am - 3pm : Intermediate Final Cut Pro
    In this session we'll dig deeper into Final Cut Pro to explore mattes and masks, multi-camera editing, color correction, exporting through Compressor and more.
  • 3pm - 5pm : Practice Time
    You've learned a lot about Final Cut Pro in a short period of time. Now is your chance to explore on your own and get any questions answered.
  • Thursday

  • 9am - 3pm : Audio
    Great audio editing can make or break a production. During this session we'll focus on expert tips and techniques to creating a successful soundtrack.
  • 3pm - 5pm : Practice Time
    We'll wrap up the day with a quick demonstration of exporting your edited video to DVD and the web.
  • Friday

  • 9am - Noon : Motion Graphics
    Nothing adds interest to your productions like professional motion graphics. In this session we'll explore Motion and techniques build engaging motion graphics quickly and easily.
  • 1pm - 5pm : Photoshop and Motion
    In our final session we'll introduce you to Adobe Photoshop from a video editors perspective and continue our exploration of motion graphics utilizing our images from Photoshop.

Instructor

Brendan BoykinBrendan Boykin is a trainer, editor, and video production consultant based in Castle Rock. As an Apple Certified Master Trainer and the owner of Creek Mountain Media (a digital video solutions company), Brendan draws on his background in broad and corporate video to provide training to post-production, education, and broad facilities nationwide. A frequent presenter at trade shows and digital video seminars, Brendan is an author, contributing writer, and technical editor/reviewer for numerous Apple Pro Training Series books. One of his latest books is the Final Cut Pro 7 Quick-Reference Guide published by Peachpit Press.

Evening Mentoring

BDA is committed to providing the best learning experience possible. One of the distinctive benefits of our Transitions Certificate Programs is evening mentoring from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Our evening mentors are different than the class instructors who are also working professionals in the industry offering you a broader perspective and a great opportunity to practice the skills you've learned, get particular questions answered or simply hang-out with peers and exchange ideas and conversation.

The building is .6 miles east of Foothills Parkway, and .25 miles west of 55th Street. Range is the street that is between the stoplights at Conestoga and Commerce. Parking is available all around the building.
