Intro to Photography: EXPOSURE Basics
What You'll Learn
Our Exposure Basics workshop will help you learn the basics of using a digital camera at home, at work, or while you travel, with a focus on the all-important exposure settings, and skills necessary to render an image at the exact level of brightness that you desire - no matter what the situation. The camera measures the light for you, of course, but the photographer needs to know how and when to jump in to take control!
The Exposure Triangle, including Sensitivity (ISO), Aperture size, and Shutter open time, will all be completely explained, including within the camera modes that let you take control of all or any one aspect. Learning when to choose a particular mode is important - Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes are all covered.
With a mixture of lecture, example, and hands-on photography, this class will make you comfortable with all the exposure settings. Learn to use the Compensation control, learn why some images come out correctly and some don't, learn to read the light and know what to do to brighten or darken your photos. This is a hands-on class with your camera. You'll never have to choose AUTO and hope for the best again!
Equipment for Class
You'll need a digital camera with all the basic modes (manual, aperture, shutter, program) to get the most out of this class. Contact us if you are not sure your camera is appropriate.
Who Should Take This
Photographers who are just starting out, and hobbyists/amateurs who want to get better, will benefit from this class. Many take this soon after or just before getting a new camera! (This content is covered in the full-day Hands On Intro to Digital Photography offering, but the full-day class is on hold due to the Corona virus.)
